Both Access Points are delivered pre-assembled and pre-configured so that anyone (including laymen) can connect 2 separate networks together. The standard configuration is optimised for a distance of 4km. A realised bandwidth of over 70Mbit nett can be achieved, which is comparable with a 100 Mbit cable connected network.
When installing, the so called Fresnel Zone should be taken into account. At 4km this amounts to over 6m (6m clearance in the middle of distance) considering the earth’s curvature. At 2km this is over 4m.
After installation you can change the following settings:
- Web access data, password, eventually username, IP, SSID (hidden)
- Change WPA2 key
- Adjust distance (delivery setting is 10km) if needed
- Change country (delivery setting is Germany) if needed.
- Change channel/frequency in range 5500 - 5700 MHz (delivery setting is 120/5600Mhz)
- After alignment the transmit power (delivery setting is 23dBm) must be reduced to 14 dBm.
Transmit power and frequency ranges for wireless networks on 5Ghz are uniformly set across Europe (ETSI EN 301 893 for 802.11h networks). Therefore DFS should be actavated or the broadcast level should be reduced by 11 dBm, as the AirOS software does not implement dynamic reduction of power levels (TPC) when interference is present.
To assist easy alignment of the antenna, 4-LED's are provided of which 3 out of 4 should light up. You also have the facility to monitor the step less signal strength through web interface.
